Global Big Day May 8, 2021 –
An Opportunity to Support Many Great Causes at Once
SELVA VERDE NEWS
Many of the bird watchers and citizen scientists that visit Selva Verde already know about the Global Big Day (GBD). For those that are not familiar with it, GBD is a celebration of birds that takes place all over the world in which people record the species they see on that particular day, especially through the use of eBird.
This year GBD is set for Saturday, May 8th, 2021. And we are very happy to once again team up with the Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) and the naturalist guides of Sarapiquí to do an incredible GBD that supports conservation by supporting the La Selva Biological Station / OTS, the Sarapiquí Conservation Learning Center, and the naturalist guides as well.
Last year, the naturalists “Team Sarapiquí” came in 5th place in the world and 3rd place in Costa Rica with a whopping 380 species on Oct 17th 2020. Thanks to the sponsorship from OTS and Selva Verde Lodge travelers like you, this generated over $2700 collectively.
And during this pandemic time when the tourism pause is having an enormous impact on the people and institutions and organizations that depend on it, the little bit that comes in from the Global Big Day is meaningful.
If you would like to participate, simply pledge an amount per bird as well as a gratuity which will be shared by the naturalists participating. Click HERE to pledge.
