Selva Verde and Grupo Pachira are working together to offer our guests a unique opportunity to explore both Tortuguero and the Sarapiquí with an exclusive 4 night package; including lodging, meals, activities, and transportation in two of Costa Rica’s premier destinations.

Optional Night in San Jose: Arrive in San Jose at Hotel Balmoral, and spend the afternoon exploring the City Center with easy walking access to the National Theatre, National Museum, and shopping. Stay in a deluxe room, followed by buffet breakfast before returning to the airport.
Package includes
Transportation to and from San Jose, lodging, meals, scheduled activities, transportation, and taxes at Pachira or Evergreen and Selva Verde.
Rates do not include gratuities, alcoholic beverages, or optional activities.
Itinerary
Day one: Early morning transfer from San Jose to Guapiles, enjoy breakfast, visit a banana processing plant (subject to availability), and board a boat to Pachira or Evergreen Lodge. Enjoy a cocktail and lunch at Pachira or Evergreen Lodge. Visit a museum, go to the beach, and explore the town of Tortuguero. Dinner served at the lodge.
Day two: Optional tour of canals at dawn, breakfast at the lodge, hike forest trails or take a boat ride along the canals, lunch at the lodge, explore at leisure the trails and canals. Dinner at lodge, optional night tour to search for nesting sea turtles (July –September)
Day three: Breakfast at the Lodge, depart by boat for Guapiles. Lunch in Guapiles, and transfer to Selva Verde Lodge. Settle in, explore the grounds, gardens, river and bridge. Dinner at lodge, followed by guided night hike searching for nocturnal wildlife.
Day four: Breakfast at the lodge, followed by guided hike in the primary forest reserve across the river. Lunch at the lodge, followed by afternoon white water rafting trip on the Sarapiquí River (class II/III). Dinner served at the lodge.
Day 5: Breakfast at the lodge. Relax, explore, or enjoy one of many optional activities available. Check out, enjoy a last lunch at the lodge. Depart with transfer to San Jose (or other location, where additional fees may apply).
Highlights
Pachira Lodge and Evergreen Lodge are located in Tortuguero and are run by Grupo Pachira. They have the exact same sustainability certificates, quality and service standards, as well as the same packages and rates. Feel free to choose which of their two lodges you'd like to stay in.
Pachira or Evergreen Lodge: Visit the world famous Tortuguero National Park and enjoy the biodiversity and natural splendors within. Tortuguero is home to capuchin, spider, and howler monkeys, ocelots, jaguars, sloths, 60 species of amphibians, 300 species of birds, 30 species of freshwater fish, and beautiful tropical vegetation. Sea turtles can be found nesting on the beaches here July – September. Enjoy the beautifully landscaped grounds, comfortable lodging, and exceptional service at Pachira or Evergreen Lodge. Selva Verde Lodge: Visit the acclaimed private 500 acre rainforest reserve in the Sarapiquí Region, enjoying the lush, wildlife filled grounds on the banks of the Sarapiquí River. Selva Verde is home to howler monkeys, iguanas, poison dart frogs, tree frogs, 398 species of birds including toucans, great green macaws, and hummingbirds, 350 species of trees, and many other species of amphibians, reptiles, and plants. Enjoy guided hikes in the rainforest, white water rafting, and exploring the grounds and river. Birding Activities
SELVA VERDE LODGE, COSTA RICA
Keel-billed Toucans, Great Green Macaws, Wood Thrushes, Grey-necked Wood Rails, Sun bitterns and Violet Crowned Woodnymphs are just a few of the birds that inhabit the Selva Verde Rainforest Reserve. For decades, Selva Verde has been a birding hotspot - captivating beginner and expert alike.

Early Morning Bird Walks at Selva Verde
Grab your binoculars and join our naturalist guide for an early morning bird walk on the grounds of Selva Verde. Morning is a very active time for the birds, so you can count on sighting several of the stunning tropical species that inhabit Selva Verde. Every morning is different, but they are all exciting! Your guide has a keen eye and a high-powered scope, so you can get close up views of birds you might not otherwise notice. Binoculars can be rented at reception.

Guided Nature Walk
Experience first hand the wonder of exploring a tropical rainforest. Enjoy a personalized and leisurely ramble through Selva Verde's 500 acre private reserve with our knowledgeable naturalist guides. Learn more than just the names of rainforest plants and animals - discover their secret lives and fascinating natural histories. Be on the look out for monkeys, mot-mots, toucans, and poison dart frogs, and remember to bring your camera!

Velvet Worm Sighting in Selva Verde Lodge!
The night of September 9, 2022, during a night hike, our guide Randy Alvarado managed to spot in the primary forest of Selva Verde Lodge a species that is exceptionally hard to find in Costa Rica, a velvet worm (Onicóforo in Spanish). This is one of the oldest living beings in evolutionary terms, as it is known they exist since the Cambrian Period, more than 515 million years ago.
