Selva Verde Lodge Receives “Safe Travels” Stamp

SELVA VERDE NEWS

WTTC Safe Travels Stamp Selva Verde Lodge We are pleased to announce that Selva Verde Lodge, with the help and endorsement of the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT), has obtained the World Travel and Tourism Council’s "Safe Travels" stamp. “Safe Travels” is the world’s first standardized travel and tourism safety and hygiene seal, designed by the WTTC in response to COVID-19 and similar outbreaks.

The seal represents Selva Verde’s ongoing commitment to providing authentic experiences and high-quality service while ensuring traveler health and safety. It will allow tourists to recognize Selva Verde as a lodge that implements health and hygiene best practices, both outward-facing and behind-the-scenes, that are aligned with WTTC’s requirements.

Like the protocols that the ICT has developed, the WTTC has taken into account current guidelines from the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other industry leaders. The effort has received backing from the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Furthermore, the WTTC’s protocols are living documents that will be updated as new information on COVID-19 becomes available.

After five years of obligatory absence, the Costa Rican International Herpetological Symposium is back in its Fifth edition.

Costa Rica is home to 5% of the planet's biodiversity. Though small in geographic area, Costa Rica has one of the highest densities of herpetofauna in the world with more than 440 species of reptiles and amphibians. The Symposium will feature presentations and workshops about conservation and herpetology by organizations and individuals. Come and learn about new findings and research from all over the Americas and beyond, or see how you can share your own work with conference participants and other interested people.

Velvet Worm Sighting in Selva Verde Lodge!

The night of September 9, 2022, during a night hike, our guide Randy Alvarado managed to spot in the primary forest of Selva Verde Lodge a species that is exceptionally hard to find in Costa Rica, a velvet worm (Onicóforo in Spanish). This is one of the oldest living beings in evolutionary terms, as it is known they exist since the Cambrian Period, more than 515 million years ago.
