GuidesCosta Rica Rainforest ToursWe are very fortunate at Selva Verde to have two excellent naturalist guides, who share their knowledge and appreciation of the flora and fauna of the rainforest with our guests to provide a true connection with Costa Rican nature and culture. We would like to present our local resident naturalists, Alex and Michael. Alex Ramirez
Alex has had the privilege of conducting important research and coursework at INBIO, Costa Rica's institute for biodiversity and conservation research. This experience left an indelible impression on Alex and contributed to the growth of his career in nature interpretation. He has worked with the Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center where he became fluent in English. Alex currently specializes in Costa Rican frogs, birds, and natural history. He has been a part of the Selva Verde family since 1998. Michael Sevilla
He has been specializing in birds and birding for the last five years, and guides our guests at Selva Verde on morning bird walks and nature walks in the old-growth forest, sharing his knowledge and anecdotes. He has a keen eye for spotting wildlife, and is developing his skills as a talented nature photographer. He is also the proud father of his daughter, Michaela. |

Alex has lived in Chilamate since the age of 5. Having been raised with an appreciation
for education and nature, he began working at Selva Verde Lodge, showing a special interest
in the gardens, butterflies, and frogs. This experience gave him a keen eye and passion for
nature.
Michael was born in the Sarapiquí Region and grew up working alongside his father at the La Selva Biological Center. His exposure to forest ecology as a youth instilled in him an appreciation and passion for wildlife, natural history and conservation, which led him to a career as a naturalist guide at Selva Verde.
