Robert Alison - Ornithologist
Robert Alison received his formal education at the University of Toronto where he received his PhD in ornithology. Subsequently, he was an avian specialist, representing the government of Ontario, Canada on the Atlantic and Mississippi Flyway Councils. After leaving government service he has worked as a professional environmental consultant, specializing in avian ecology. His main focus has been Australian and Latin American birds. He has been to Costa Rica 5 times; 4 of which involved stays at Selva Verde in the Sarapiqui region of Costa Rica. He is a regular contributor to Parrots magazine, Bird Talk and several other periodical publications focusing on birds. In the past, he wrote ecological material for the Encyclopedia Britannica. For the last 16 years, he has been an Elderhostel group leader for various birding programs. Currently, he is co-conducting ecological studies with the US Geological Survey, on Arctic waterfowl. He is currently based in Victoria, British Columbia.
