Costa Rica Eco Lodge Pioneer

Selva Verde was one of the first of Costa Rica's lodges to offer an authentic ecotourism adventure when we opened in 1985. Our Rainforest Reserve contains more than 500 acres of primary tropical rainforest that were purchased to protect them from deforestation in 1983.

Selva Verde's Costa Rica eco lodge carries and supports the Certification for Sustainable Tourism, the Costa Rican national standard for sustainable practices in tourism.

As part of the San Juan La Selva Biological Corridor, which is part of the greater Mesoamerican Biological Corridor in Central America, our Rainforest Reserve provides habitat protection for plant and wildlife species, such as the Almond Tree and the Great Green Macaw.

The Sarapiquí Conservation Learning Center, funded by Selva Verde's Costa Rica eco lodge tourism activities, offers the opportunity for the intellectual and cultural exchange between visitors and local people through activities and service projects, enriching the experience of both groups.
